Shopify Admin

Shopify Admin is the backend dashboard where you manage every aspect of your online store. It is where you add products, process orders, manage customers, configure payment gateways, install apps, customize your theme, and control your store settings. You access it by logging into yourstore.myshopify.com/admin.

Think of Shopify Admin as the control room for your entire ecommerce business.

Why It Matters

Everything you do on Shopify runs through the admin panel. Product listings, pricing changes, discount codes, shipping settings, tax configuration, and customer management all happen here. Understanding how to navigate your admin efficiently saves you time on daily operations and helps you avoid mistakes that could affect your customers.

Many Shopify store owners only use a fraction of what the admin offers. Learning your way around the full dashboard reveals tools and settings that can improve your store’s performance, SEO, and customer experience.

The better you know your Shopify Admin, the faster you can make changes, fix issues, and grow your store.

Main Sections

Home. Your dashboard overview showing recent orders, store activity, sales metrics, and actionable insights. This is the first screen you see after logging in.

Orders. Manage incoming orders, process refunds, create draft orders, and track fulfillment. You can filter orders by status, date, customer, or payment method.

Products. Add and edit product pages, manage product variants (sizes, colors), organize products into collections, set pricing and inventory levels, and manage transfers.

Customers. View customer profiles, order history, and contact information. Create customer segments for targeted marketing and manage customer tags for organization.

Content. Manage blog posts and static pages (About, Contact, FAQ). This section also includes your navigation menus and the new metaobject system for custom content types.

Analytics. Built-in reports showing sales, sessions, conversion rates, and customer behavior. While not as detailed as Google Analytics, Shopify’s built-in analytics provide quick access to essential metrics.

Marketing. Create and manage marketing campaigns, automations, and track marketing attribution. Integrates with email marketing and social media channels.

Discounts. Create discount codes, automatic discounts, and free shipping offers. Set conditions, limits, and expiration dates.

Settings. The most important but often overlooked section. Controls payment providers, checkout, shipping, taxes, domains, notifications, and store policies.

Key Settings Every Store Owner Should Know

Checkout settings. Control guest checkout, account creation requirements, order processing, and checkout customization. These settings directly affect your conversion rate.

Shipping and delivery. Set shipping zones, rates, and delivery expectations. Offering free shipping thresholds can increase average order value.

Domain settings. Connect your custom domain name and manage SSL certificates. A custom domain is essential for brand credibility and SEO.

Notifications. Customize the emails your store sends for order confirmations, shipping updates, and abandoned cart recovery. These emails are often your most-read customer communications.

SEO and URL structure. Shopify’s admin lets you edit meta titles, meta descriptions, URL handles, and alt text for every product, collection, and page. These fields are critical for search visibility.

Shopify Admin vs. Shopify POS

Shopify Admin manages your online store and overall business settings. Shopify POS is a separate app for processing in-person sales at physical retail locations. POS connects back to the same admin, so inventory and customer data stay synced between online and in-store sales.

Mobile Access

Shopify offers a mobile app that gives you access to most admin features from your phone. You can process orders, check analytics, manage products, and respond to customers on the go. For store owners who are frequently away from their desks, the mobile admin keeps your business accessible.

Your Shopify Admin is the one place you visit every day. Spend time learning its features and shortcuts. The efficiency you gain pays off with every order you process.
